AE Gibson & Sons Innovative Sawmills Sawquip Vertical Roll Infeed

AE Gibson and Sons is a fifth-generation family-owned sawmill engineering business, based in regional Australia. The business is located at Kendall, on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, which was once the heart of Australia’s native forest industry. Having begun operations in the late 19th century, we are the oldest and most experienced sawmilling equipment supplier in Australia.

We are pleased to offer our customers options with the Sawquip Vertical Roll Infeed solution. The modular concept permits various log forms and diameters to be accommodated.

The combination of AE Gibson and Son’s local Australian based machinery design, manufacturing and Timber industry experience, coupled with the Sawquip machinery for high volume and small log processing applications, provides the Australian and New Zealand Timber industry with the latest technology to improve production volume, efficiency, and yield.

Sawquip Vertical Roll Infeed

Sawquip has developed this efficient 8’-16’ log infeed to replace existing infeeds that are space restrained and require accurate positioning to chipping canters and/or saws.

Principle of operation

When fed by a manual log turner, the first two modules are fitted with bar rollers to ensure that the rotation of the log is complete before it enters the spiked roller modules.

The modular concept makes it possible to feed logs of different shapes and diameters without affecting their retention and their centering.

Pin roller modules are adjustable and are oriented so the log stays in contact with the wear plate (anvil that supports the log to the Canter heads).

Advantages of High Efficiency Modular Entry:

  • Easy to incorporate and install in a confined space
  • Respects the sawing axis of the log
  • Possibly fed continuously
  • Roller drive (electro-mechanical)
  • No drive chain
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Easy access to all mechanics
  • Reduced maintenance
